His opponent is really considerate

LesK • 1 year ago

didn't you recognize him? he's the opponent Shuu beat in eps785,86 to win his 7th title Meijin. the match they're playing in right now Shuu is the 'defender' of one of his 7 crowns.

shogi official matches (like title tournaments) happen in a 'season' and they're usually a bit longer than a year... basically they overlap calendar years. to win and keep all 7 titles only lasts a few months within that shogi season. the first and only man to ever hold the 7 crowns Yoshiharu Habu did it in 1996 and that honor only lasted from February 14 to July 30.

the 7 crowns have to be defended by the present title holder during that specific title's tournament EVERY shogi season. the champion just waits while the applicants duke it out and the best player challenges the title holder for that crown at the end. each title tournament has a specific number of days, that are different, and a number of matches, which are different, played during the championship round at the end of that title's tournament.

considering there's some of those qualifiers that have 100 or so applicants trying to challenge for that title every shogi season, you can see why it is so hard to hold the 7 crowns honor for longer than a few months. it is basically like having to defend seven different championship belts in seven different martial arts every year. :>

but, the various crown holders can relinquish that championship and title if they're unable to participate in the final round. a formal written apology sent to the crown tournament organizer with a valid reason the current crown holder cannot participate is required. in that case, the top two challengers from the qualifiers tournament to the title try and beat each other in the championship round. the winner gets that crown for that shogi season.

I love when they put little throwbacks to previous episodes. It's like a cool easter egg or something.

This is the only couple I dislike in this anime, their relationship was toxic from the beginning, I thought we would get to see some character development about Yumi but she never gets any, and now we know she is just a gold digger, he is dumb for not realizing all the red flags about her, that marriage won’t last long, she’s gonna steal his well earned money and bounce.

Wake up Chukichi !

Yumi honestly dont deserve Shukichi for how she's been acting. And this episode basically confirms shes a gold digger.

I kind of agree. No offense, but she's so lucky with Shukichi. He's an awesone guy and his family is awesome too.

I think she has an attitude but it's more of a superficial attitude rather than an inherent characteristic.

She is kinda materialistic, but not in a radical sense.

This is the reason why I love her character and Sonoko, they both can be blatantly vain, but I'm rooting for their maturity and development.
